I was headed down that road. Yep...Diabetes 2 runs in my family along with heart disease. What do you do when this evil rears it evil head in your body.
You change your diet....that is what you do!
In my effort to "Keep things Simple" I will share Links that have helped me gain control of my weight and improve other heath factors:
Atkins Diet
Controlled Carb and Gluten Free Diet
Eating a High Fat/Moderate Protein/Low Carb Diet will reverse your Diabetes 2!
Eating a High Fat (healthy fat)/Moderate Protein/Low Carb Diet will also increase you energy and cause you to feel WONDERFUL!
My Granddaughter helped me make Low Carb Deviled Eggs Christmas Eve. I have lost 5 more lbs since this picture was taken.
Eating low carb does not have to be bland. I enjoy many good veggies that replace potatoes and corn...with white turnips and cauliflower.
It puzzles me as to why Folks with Diabetes 2 will opt for taking the meds instead of adjusting their diet....oh well.
I will adjust my diet...lose slowly while feeling wonderful!!!
Wishing Peace, Love, Health, Wealth, and Love to ALL!

ReplyDeleteThanks Sondra!
DeleteJust curious ... How does your "Southern Sweet Ice Tea" fit into a low carb diet? What am I missing here?
ReplyDeleteIt fits in because I only use stevia to sweeten my tea...and have for the last few years.
DeleteThanks for bringing this up!

ReplyDeleteI know how you feel. My mum also has diabetes and she is in very early stage and has maintained for few years and in good health. She eats healthy and do some moderate exercise...I wish you good luck :)
ReplyDeleteWishing your Mum continued Health!
DeleteThanks.:)
Wow! Now I see why you went on such a strict diet. Good luck to you. My dad had diabetes and even with the major changes in his eating habits he had to take insulin. Take care of yourself!
ReplyDeleteHonestly...I don't consider this a "strict" diet. Eating low carb is really a tasty diet since we can have healthy fats.
DeleteOH...I don't have diabetes but would have most likely developed it if I hadn't changed my diet.
You and your grand daughter look great in this photo. Right, we have to maintain our weight for good health. My office mates at the Call Center would tease me I am stingy for not eating at our office pantry. I would take green salad or simply crackers for snacks. We work at night, very tempting to eat. It takes a lot of courage and discipline not to surrender to my voracious appetite, actually.:)
ReplyDeleteGood for you on forgoing the unhealthy snacks. If only they knew that if the offerings were healthy...their employees would be happier and perform at a higher level.
DeleteI'm doing that to get off reflux meds, but it is not easy. It's a lot of work to figure out what is good to eat and what isn't and trying to cook a whole new way. But the good part is that once you figure it out--it is a breeze! Good for you for making such a great change in your life! You look GREAT!
ReplyDeleteI also have to take reflux meds. Due to my recent weight loss I don't have to take the "night-time" meds for this disorder.
DeleteYep...it took time to research this diet and learn how to cook for this diet. But...it is a yummy diet.
Ah Sucks...Thanks.:)
I HAVE TYPE TWO ALSO.
ReplyDeleteGRANNY
Granny, You did you know that you could "reverse" your type 2 by follow the Atkins diet? I read about many who have done so on the Atkins Community Forms. Check the Atkins site out. I promise that this "way of eating" is very yummy!
DeleteTHANK SWEET GAL FRIEND, I'VE BEEN DIETING ALL MY MARRIED YEARS. I WAS 108 THE DAY I GOT MARRIED AND GAINED 40# IN FIRST THREE MONTHS. TODAY 54 YEARS LATER I WEIGH @#$%^&^%$#@. GIGGLE GIGGLE AT 74 I'VE GIVEN UP. LONG STORY. I TOLD THE DOCTOR I DIDN'T WANT TO LIVE INTO MY MIDDLE 80S AND 90S. THESE FEW YEARS FOR THE FIRST TIME IN MY LIFE, I WANT TO DO IT MY WAY AS I SLIP AWAY.I WANT TO ENJOY NATURE, SING,LAUGH EAT AND DO WHAT I WANT FOR A CHANGE. DON'T FEEL SORRY FOR ME. ALL MY PRAYER HAVE BEEN ANSWER AND I'M READY WHENEVER THE TIME COMES. HUGS, GRANNY
DeleteGranny, I also don't wish to live into my middle 80s or 90s either! Don't know what I will do if I live past 80.
DeleteDang...You have my respect. Hugs to you my friend!
People choose to not change their diet because change is hard, it's easier to take a pill.
ReplyDeleteIsn't this sad? Most Humans are lazy and opt for the easy route. Sigh...
DeleteThank you for the links Jean! (Bill has Type 2 and we have been following a low-carb diet for a year -- he has lost over 50 pounds and keeping his count low. It is hard tho.
ReplyDeleteWow! Bill is doing great....good for him!
DeleteLow carb doesn't have to be hard. I am loving this new way of eating.
I was so excited to go to your links -- I've added the diet blog to my google reader now -- that I forgot to say you and your granddaughter are both beautiful! What fun to cook with her and how good for her to learn from you!
ReplyDeleteThanks Sallie!
DeleteYou will enjoy Lisa's recipes.
Atkins new cookbook is Wonderful! I am cooking the Classic Chicken Fricassee and it smells wonderful. You can order online or buy it at Walmart or Target.
Happy Low Carb-ing.
You look great in that pic! Way to go.
ReplyDeleteThanks Joan!
DeleteGood for you, you're right, too many people want the easy way out.
ReplyDeleteIt is sad but true.
DeleteThanks!
